Introducing

Learn With MG

Launching 10 October 2026

A structured learning and certification programme for Mile Gobbler members, built around a curriculum that is both informative and thrilling.

Why We Are Doing This

The guesswork stops here

We have seen a lot of members come out on their first trails and simply follow the more experienced drivers, hoping it works out. So far it has. That is not a good enough reason to keep doing it.

As an MG member you should be properly informed and certified before you join people on the more dangerous trails. Not because we want to gatekeep the club, but because a driver who understands their vehicle is safer, faster and considerably harder to get stuck.

This is about learning to use your vehicle properly, understanding what it can and cannot do, and building the confidence to take on increasingly challenging terrain.

Who it is for

Both new and existing members. If you have been running trails for years there will still be things in here worth having, and Level 2 exists precisely for drivers who already have the fundamentals down.

The Curriculum

What the programme covers

Six things every driver should be able to do before the terrain gets serious.

  • Understand your 4x4What your vehicle is actually capable of, and where its limits sit.
  • Proper offroad driving techniqueLine choice, throttle control, momentum and gear selection on real terrain.
  • Vehicle positioning and terrain readingReading a section before you drive it, and accurate spotting for other drivers.
  • Recovery techniques and safety practiceWinching, snatch recovery, anchor points and how to run a recovery without hurting anyone.
  • Confidence behind the wheelThe difference between guessing and knowing, on an obstacle you have not seen before.
  • Progression to harder trailsBuilding towards the technical and challenging runs on the MG calendar.

Structure

Two levels

Level 1 first, then Level 2. The second builds directly on the first.

Level 1

Foundation

Building the fundamentals and developing confidence in your 4x4. How the drivetrain works, what low range is for, tyre pressures, basic recovery, and enough seat time to make it stick.

Level 2

Advanced

Taking those skills further into technical terrain, more challenging obstacles and advanced offroad situations. For drivers who have the foundation and want to run the harder end of the calendar.

Full curriculum coming before launch

Session dates, format and what certification involves at each level will be announced to members ahead of 10 October. If you want to be on the list for the first intake, tell us now.

We don't just want you to come on a Mile Gobbler trail. We want you to become capable enough to take on the bigger ones.
